When I was just a boy, I was told me this story:

My father was an attorney, and one day he came home and told my mother about an inventor who had offered him a partnership in his invention instead of a legal fee.  Well at that time the gas stove was in every household and the method in which it was lit was by lighting a  match, turning on the gas and placing the lighted match over the burner.  The gas coming out of the burner would then ignite.
