FAQ Answer:

Question:
Bud,
I was filling out the order form and I got confused about keywords and phrases. What does the term
"Keywords/phrases" mean. And how do you determine which is most important?
Henry B.
Answer: Dear Henry,
This is a critical and first step to the successful promotion of a website.
First determine a word that you believe many of your clients or customers would use when searching for your product or service on the internet.
Let us assume that the you have a website that specializes in "website promotion"
and that you have a page that you want to promote dealing with the use
of "Aspirins"
There are many important keywords that may be used but
let's assume further that you believe that your customers would be
looking for "Aspirin",
therefore your most important keyword would be "Aspirin"
Now the word "Aspirin" is ok but if you search for it you'll get a zillion sites competing for that word. Therefore using your keyword in a phrase will reduce the competition. For each word you add you'll get less competition. Keeping this in mind, the plan then is to find people looking for
phrases which include your keyword,
"Aspirin".
It becomes clear that in addition to your primary keywords, phrases including your keyword (or even synonyms of your keyword), should be used. The phrase should be one that you believe your potential client would use in a search for your product or service. Once the keywords are established, they should be included in a
"Aspirin" meta tag (A sample meta tag is included later in this text).
Consider the following example
Assume that you want to attract visitors who are looking
for information relative to the use of "Aspirins" in their web site. Your selection of keywords for your web site may be something like the following:
tylenol aspirin
robert aspirin
non aspirin
low dose aspirin
hydrocodone and aspirin
giving dog aspirin
ephedrine caffeine aspirin
enteric coated aspirin
enteric aspirin
dog aspirin
dog arthritis aspirin
daily aspirin
child aspirin
celebrex and aspirin
The meta tag (included in the <head> section of your html code) would appear as follows:
<meta name="Aspirins" content="tylenol
aspirin,robert aspirin,non aspirin,low dose aspirin,hydrocodone and
aspirin,giving dog aspirin,ephedrine caffeine aspirin,enteric coated
aspirin,enteric aspirin,dog aspirin,dog arthritis aspirin,daily
aspirin,child aspirin,celebrex and aspirin,cat aspirin">
This principle applies to all of the key search words. This is basic for a primary web site.
It illustrates a part of the constant tweaking process that is a requirement for successfully promoted web sites.
Incidentally some engines will use combinations of the words in a phrase.
For an even more intensive use of keywords, a determination of the number of times a specific keyword/phrase is used, and the number of websites using that keyword/phrase. Once this is determined, the most valuable keyword/phrase would be the one with the least competition and yet the most used.
Thank you for your inquiry, we will include it in our FAQ page. It's the type of information that's hard to find.
Regards Bud
